Believe it or not – thirty years after his start as an solo artist, Derek William Dick aka FISH is going to retire with his twelfth album “Weltschmerz“ and the accompanying tour in 2021. In 2018, the Scotsman watered the mouth of his fans with the EP “A Parley Of Angels“ containing three of the keytracks from his “Swan Song Record“. But be aware – if you are waiting a Progressive Rock masterpiece in the vein of his brilliant debut “Vigil In The Wilderness of Mirrors“ you can switch to another review. “Weltschmerz“ contains ten tunes clocking at 85 minutes in total, mostly quiet and more Pop than Prog. “Man With A Stick“ definitely marks a highlight. And so it also does the Scottish-tinged and catchy “This Party‘s Over“. But the best cut is the athmospheric and almost 16 minutes long “Rose Of Damascus“. On the second CD, “C-Song (Trondheim‘s Waltz)“ comes along as an up-tempo track – compared zo the rest of the material. Saving the best for last, which is the title cut and one of the shortest songs of the album. A solid effort at the end – to be ordered exclusively from the artist!
