Melodic Rock from Hungary? May sound a little bit exotic first but STARDUST really have nailed it on “Highway To Heartbreak”! The heavy influences from various 80’s genre bands such as DEF LEPPARD, NIGHT RANGER, PAT BENATAR, ORION THE HUNTER, BON JOVI and WINGER are obvious there all over the place – and the music sometimes comes really close!
The group consists of Adam Stewart (lead vocals),Tim Keeley (drums), Facey (lead guitar and vocals), Dave Legrand (keyboards) and Ben Martin (bass and vocals). MARK SPIRO and TOMMY DENANDER helped the five-piece in the song-writing department. Highlights to check out include “2nd Hand Love”, “Bullet To My Heart” and “Eye To Eye”. “Heartbreaker”, a nice cover of PAT BENATAR’s “Heartbreaker”, rounds up the ‘experienced’ record. This might not be a common word to use in review about a debut album – it perfectly fits into the picture here though.
Over-all, “Highway To Heartbreak” is not a very much innovative or self-developed release but nevertheless a highly entertaining one – and this maybe even could also be seen as compliment in the year 2020. And STARDUST refreshingly do not – like so many other new groups right now – play the Scandinavian 80’s influenced style but orientate more on the American Arena Rock of that era.
