Expectations have been high for the new MICHAEL SCHENKER FEST-album. One or the other rather average song too much prevents a better rating here which, of course, does not mean that the guitars and the vocal performances (Robin McAuley, Graham Bonnet, Gary Barden, Doogie White) are nothing but fantastic. Nevertheless, the last effort (“Resurrection“) was slightly better when it comes down to songwriting, but “Revelation“ still is a good hard rock album with a fascinating concept concerning the different vocalists or voices involved. The opening track “Rock Steady“ is quite average, though, but tracks like “Sleeping With The Lights On“, “Silent Again“ or “Lead You Astray“ offer quality songwriting and we don’t have to discuss the amazing talent of MICHAEL SCHENKER on guitar here, have we? The last track, the fast instrumental “Ascension“ is pure magic and leaves you speechless. Former MSG drummer Bodo Schopf is back in what was called MSG earlier on and most of the material is written by Michael Voss (e.g. CASANOVA, MAD MAX, PHANTOM 5). But what on earth about the artwork? And I’m not (only) talking about he very dark colors. The image is pretty strange as it shows Michael being crucified. Seriously?
7/10
